A Testimony from Our Tailoring Project

The ministry, World Challenge, is financially sponsoring a "tailoring project" in India, RHM carrying out that project on the ground. There are 12 students who are receiving training from 5 different instructors, all hoping to use the new tailoring skills to earn some income in future days. Seven of the students are single mothers, all abandoned by their husbands. One other student was also abandoned by her husband, but has no children. Three students are young, unmarried women, and the last one is married, but her husband is not caring for the family properly. Below is a recent testimony from Jyothi, one of the single mothers.

“My name is Jyothi. When my parents were unbelievers they arranged a marriage for me, but that was a very horrible life. He was drinking, smoking, had illegal relationships (adultery), and he never took care of me. I was also having a problem with seizures. When I was with pregnancy, he didn't want me anymore because of the seizure problem. Sometimes he would go out, and not come back for many days. When my parents got to know about these issues, they took me back to my hometown.

I was living with my parents in the time of pregnancy. During this time, my younger brother (who was married) unexpectedly met with an accident. The doctors said he would not live much longer, but by the prayer of one believer God visited my brother in the hospital. My father also had faith that Jesus would heal him because he saw a shining light in a vision. My father was a strong Hindu idol worshipper, but accepted Christ in the hospital. God started to do a miracle in my brother. The Lord gave him his life back. By this miracle, all of our family started accepting Christ and going to church. (Sadly, the brother’s wife left him, as she didn’t think he could fully recover, and she didn’t want to accept Christ.)

God did a miracle in my life also. It seemed an impossible situation because of my problem with seizures to deliver a baby, but God gave a daughter to me. Now all of us are going to church. As I was praying about my survival (Jyothi stays with her brother and parents), through World Challenge God provided a tailoring machine, an instructor to teach me the tailoring, and an auto to take me from home to the classes. I am learning very well. This will help me to provide for my daughter and myself. Thank you for your support. God bless you.”

(Really, we are very happy about this family. The Dad has had polio since childhood, and has trouble walking. He stitches together rice bags and other bags to make tarps for people to use for various purposes. Jyothi’s mother is a housewife. Her brother is a registered medical practitioner, meaning he is qualified to go to people’s homes, do basic checkups and give basic meds. He is the main person taking care of all 5 family members. Jyothi is a precious young lady, but because of the culture, having a daughter and periodic seizures, outside of a miracle she may never get remarried. She has a precious 5 year old daughter.)
