Defending the Widow

Our GOD is called a "Defender of widows". Psalms 68:5 says that a "Father of the fatherless, a Defender of widows, is GOD in His holy habitation." And Psalms 82:3 says that we are to "Defend the poor and fatherless..." The Lord is the "Defender", but oftentimes He does that through human beings who have His compassion in their hearts. Sometimes "defending" the poor might be simply helping them in some tangible way when there's no one else there to do it. Satan (the ultimate "thief") "comes only to steal, kill and destroy" (John 10:10), and bombards many widows with loneliness, and a sense of being helpless and hopeless when most of the people around them have no heart to comfort them. A recent example: A 27 year old young woman named Anusha recently lost her husband to leukemia on March 12th. She and her 1 year old boy have gone to her mother's home in a village. Sadly, most of the villagers do not want her there. They feel that there is some kind of curse in seeing a widow's face, so they try to avoid her. She is supposed to only stay inside her mother's home for a certain number of days. And the saddest part of this? Most of these people say they are Christians! Job said, "I made the widow's heart sing for joy" (Job 29:13), and yet all around the world, even believers are doing the very opposite! Let us be TRUE Christians, and reach out with His love to defend the helpless and widows from Satan's attacks.
