Porch Prayers

Where we are involved with the people in India, they don't know the word "porch". They call it a "verandah". And "prayers" is a general word often used to describe any type of Christian meeting. Whether singing, sharing the Word and praying in a church, at someone's home or elsewhere, they will say "We are going to prayer now" or "Let's start prayer now". Americans would think that means we're going to start praying, but there it means we're going to start the meeting (which always includes praying). The girl on the cot with her legs crossed is Akshaya (14). She has had health problems all of her life, and we started visiting this home to see her and her mother. She also has a father (left of the photo, but came to the meeting) and a younger sister. We soon understood that the Lord was opening a door to minister not only to her family, but to several children, youth and adults in the neighborhood who are also interested to come. This has happened in about 5 of the homes where we go to visit a family; each time we go, there are other neighbors or relatives who are also joining. We praise the Lord for precious opportunities to reach out to many with the Gospel, and to teach them how to walk with JESUS.
